Anyone remember this former C.O.: Kevin Wright?
by Olin Moyles Ghost induring the early 2000s, kevin wright was the c.o.
for a circuit that included several of my friends.
i remember hearing my friends complain about what a tool this guy was--and these complainers weren't just "lowly" publishers--some of them were elders and pioneers.

Anyone know who wrote the Truth book?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inas a kid, i remember hearing that "the truth that leads to everlasting life" was the best-selling book of all time besides the bible.
if that's true, then whoever wrote the "truth" book is the second-best-selling author in the history of the world--second only to god!
ray franz's books mention the authors of several society publications, but i don't believe he says who wrote the truth book.

If the FDS was appointed in 33 C.E., then why did Jesus inspect in 1918?
by Olin Moyles Ghost infirst, some background: when i first began to have doubts about whether the jw religion was "the truth," i performed quite a bit of research on the faithful and discreet slave doctrine...in the society's literature, of course.
like many of us, i had never really examined the doctrine.
well, needless to say (but i'll say it anyway), i found major flaws in the society's interpretation of the parable of the faithful and discreet slave.

Rationales behind Elimination of the Book Study and Likely Effects Thereof
by Olin Moyles Ghost ini realize that the book study news has been discussed ad nauseam, but i would like to join the fun.
lots of potential reasons have been bandied about on the board.
for example, legal liability for crimes/torts that take place at the bookstudy homes may make the society nervous.

Did the WTS actually get it right in 1942?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inrecently in the book study, we discussed revelation 17:8 which says, in part, "the wild beast that you saw was, but is not, and yet is about to ascend out of the abyss, and it is to go off into destruction.
" in chapter 34, paragraphs 4-5, the revelation climax book relates that in september 1942, knorr gave a talk called "peace--can it last?
" in that talk, knorr noted that the league was in the abyss at that time as a result of world war 2. he asked "will the league remain in the pit?

Which is More Important: Doctrinal Correctness or Unity?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inlately i have done a lot of thinking about the inevitable discussions i will have with family and friends about my (and their) beliefs.
i have begun running through some hypothetical conversations in my mind.
today, i thought of a particular line of reasoning and would like to hear any comments/criticism from the board.

Alternative Service Banned - Cite?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inas most of us know, alternative civilian service (e.g., working in a hospital) as a substitute for compulsory military service was banned by the society until 1996. my understanding is that this ban was instituted in the 1940s.
does anyone have a cite to a watchtower article or other publication that explains the basis for this position?
in my research, i have found several of wt articles and yearbook experiences that mention that jws consciences won't allow them to perform anything that is a "substitute" for military service.

Is anyone else hoping for the Society to "crack down" on the friends?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inthere have been a few threads speculating about possible future actions by the society, triggered in part by the "valueless things" article and losch's alleged new light re: bablylon the great.
personally, i hope they do something crazy and make up some new unscriptural doctrines and/or rules.
this may help some of my family members to "see the light," so to speak.

So, Kingdom News #37 was intended to start the great tribulation?
by Olin Moyles Ghost ini have seen the following statement made on this board several times: 'kn #37 ("the end of false religion is near") was intended by the wbts to provoke the great tribulation.
that's an intriguing thought.
i'm just curious where it came from.

Anyone get disfellowshipped for voting?
by Olin Moyles Ghost inaccording to a questions from readers in the 11/1/1999 wt, voting in political elections is technically a matter of conscience.
of course, the article lays out numerous reasons why "mature christians" would choose not to vote.
nonetheless, the article concludes that it is up to an individual's conscience.
